Healthy Baby Club is a prenatal nutrition program which provides information and support to pregnant moms. This program is designed to reduce the incidence of low birth weight and to promote the growth of healthy babies. With the support of an advisory committee made up of a Nutritionist, Community Health Nurse, Mental Health Social Worker, and a member of our Board of Directors our Resource Mothers facilitate weekly group sessions in Carbonear, Bay Roberts and Hr. Grace. Each week expectant moms discuss topics such as nutrition and food preparation, the effects of alcohol, smoking, or drug consumption on pregnant women and the fetus, the growth and development of babies, preparing for the birth of the baby, the importance of breast feeding, and life skills just to name a few. As well as providing emotional and practical support to mothers during pregnancy and delivery each week our Healthy Baby Club participants receive food supplements in the form or milk, eggs, and oranges. We have the capacity to serve 24 pregnant moms at any given time and thanks to the additional funding from the provincial government we no longer have a wait list for Healthy Baby Club.
